Beautify Your Residential Space with this Wine Cellar Under Stairs in Point Loma

Wine Cellar Under Stairs Project

Wine Cellar Under Stairs Beautifully Built in Point Loma Home, San Diego

Nowadays, having a residential wine cellar under stairs is considered a work of art in modern home design. If you are someone who values space efficiency and enjoys staying at home, you won’t let any space in your home go to waste. Instead, you can transform even the limited area into innovative wine cellars.

Recently, we completed a project for a client in Point Loma, San Diego, California who transformed the small space under their stairs into a modern glass wine cellar.

Our goal was to create a contemporary wine cellar under the stairs, and one of the unique features that set this cellar apart from others is its horizontal wine racks and a glass wine room. These racks are designed to be seen through the wall from the outside of the cellar.

This was an original wine cellar project by Coastal Custom Wine Cellars, they create a wine cellar design that meets your display and management requirements.

Wine Cellar Under Stairs: Point Loma’s Impressive Home Wine Cellar Project

Wine Cellar Under Stairs

Wooden Wine Racks Placed Under Stairs

Transforming the area beneath the stairs into innovative wine cellars was a challenge. The team’s installation of glass wine cellars was a perfect fit for the limited space in the residential home in Point Loma. They effectively created a contemporary wine cellar with doors made of ¾ inch-tempered, frameless glass panels.

The exterior wall reveals horizontal wine racks, and the flooring was crafted from recycled wine barrels to add elegance. A WhisperKOOL wall-mount cooling system was also installed to maintain the temperature inside the cellar.

The designers employed a U-channel to construct the glass panels of this small wine cellar. They integrated insulation materials within the U-channel to provide proper insulation for the wine cellar.

A Closer Look to Wooden Wine Racks

Wooden wine racks can provide a stylish and distinctive way to store and display wine, especially when placed in a home. When wooden wine racks are used in a glass-enclosed wine room, they create an elegant wine showcase and optimize the limited wine cellar under stairs space.

The diamond-shaped bins on the bottom of the wooden wine racks complement the repurposed wine barrel flooring. Our expertly designed wine racking system prioritizes wine storage and ideal conditions. The diamond bins can hold up to 9 magnums, 12 champagnes, or 16 regular-sized wine bottles, making them an ideal spot to age wine before being moved to the upper racks.

Alder wood was chosen for the wooden wine racks due to its lightweight appearance and durability. The unique and refined-grained patterns of the wood make the wine racks more attractive, especially when viewed through a glass wall.

LED lighting has been installed to highlight the wine bottles and the reveal row, which is a great addition to most wine cellars. The lighting enhances the collection without emitting heat that could harm the wine’s quality. Additionally, each wine bottle label is visible for easy access to your selection.

When installing the cooling system for the wine cellar under the stairs, the team faced the challenge of limited workspace. To address this issue, they collaborated with WhisperKOOL to create a customized cooling system that could fit within the glass wine cellars.

The wine room, located in the center of the house, does not receive direct sunlight, so using a frameless glass door was not a problem. The team placed gaskets on the glass door to prevent leaks in the wine room.

Selecting the appropriate cooling system for a wine cellar depends on the project’s specifications. For this particular wine cellar, the team installed a WhisperKOOL Platinum Split System 4000, which is a split-type cooling unit. This allowed for the evaporator and condensing unit to be separated from each other.

The installed cooling system is both practical and efficient, with only the evaporator visible in the wine cellar, not the condenser or ducting. This system enhances the wine cellar’s insulation capacity. No one wants a basement where wires and coils are hanging around. So, the team chose to place the cooling unit inside the ceiling to keep it hidden and for aesthetic reasons.
