Residential Wine Cellar Design with Captivating Features

Residential wine cellars are in demand in many parts of the world, including California. When designed and constructed correctly, your wine room will preserve your wines for many years.

Working with a design specialist will ensure that all your requirements are met. It is best to research builders in your area that offer the services you need.

Our San Diego team has extensive experience and knowledge in designing and installing climate-controlled wine rooms. We aim to provide our clients with innovative wine storage solutions.

In one of our projects, we create a residential wine cellar design for the wines and liquors of the homeowners. We incorporated features that will inspire guests to build their own wine display and storage area.

Impressive Racking Features Incorporated in the Residential Wine Cellar Design

Designing wine racks requires skills and creativity to achieve the visual appeal of a space. You may choose pre-built or customized wine racks.

If you want to follow your own rustic wine cellar design or add custom features to your racking, custom wine racks are perfect for your needs.

In this residential wine cellar, we incorporated stylish bottle configurations to create a striking wine display that could accommodate different types of bottles.

Upon entering the beautiful home wine cellar, you will be greeted by the beautiful arch display with a tabletop at the center of the back wall.

The tabletop was a great addition to the wine rack design because it provides additional storage for a few bottles.

Above it are four horizontal bins to house the large-format bottles in the client’s collection. You will find individual wine racks surrounding the arch and display rows on its sides.

The display rows pitch the bottles at an angle to keep the cork moist. Below it is a drawer for storing wine cellar accessories. We also added diamond bins that allow the owners to store wines in bulk.

For the liquor collection of the owners, we added horizontal display racks and panels on the right wall of the wine room, displaying the bottles horizontally. With the labels facing out, it is easier to read the wine description without flipping the bottles. Beside this single-column display racking are three rectangular openings for storing large bottles vertically.

These sections of the racking are illuminated with a dramatic lighting system.

Custom Wine Racks Material

The racking material has a significant impact on the overall appeal of your wine display. Wood is a popular material used in manufacturing wine racks because of its timeless beauty and durability.

At Custom Wine Cellars San Diego, we utilize high-quality wood species, including Mahogany, Redwood, Pine, and Alder.

In this wine cellar construction project, we installed wooden wine racks made from Knotty Alder. This type of wood is known for its attractive knots and swirls. It can also withstand the highly humid conditions in refrigerated wine cellars. We applied a rustic stain to achieve a vintage look.

Glass Wine Cellar Door

Another component of a wine cellar that should not be ignored is the door. Our team knows and understands the crucial role of the proper installation of doors.

A glass wine cellar door was the perfect choice for this project because it allows a portion of the back wall to be viewed from the outside. The glass is framed in Knotty Alder. We used the LVL technology for increased strength and durability.

To seal the cold air inside the wine room, we added a Q-Lon seal. A proper seal will prevent temperature fluctuations and varying humidity levels. Failure to do so will cause air leakage, leading to wine storage issues and the breakdown of your wine cooling system. We used a thermally insulated glass panel to prevent the build-up of condensation and mold growth.

Other styles of wine cellar doors we offer are all-glass, solid wood, and wrought iron doors.

Wine Cellar Cooling System

Installing the most suitable wine cellar cooling unit will preserve the desirable characteristic of the wine. We performed a heat load calculation to determine the correct size of the refrigeration system for this project.

This process helped us determine the BTUs needed for the wine room, considering the location of the wine cellar and the amount of glass utilized for the door.

We installed an HS wine cooling system from US Cellar Systems. We ducted the evaporator up in the attic while the condenser was placed in the garden area, resulting in a quiet operation.
