Residential Wooden Wine Racks for Simple San Diego Wine Rooms

Custom Wine Cellars San Diego customizes residential wooden wine racks to fit any space in your home. While we have pre-assembled wine rack kits, we recommend getting your racks custom-designed and built on-site so they fit precisely within the room’s dimensions. We use different types of wood according to the look you want to achieve, and we only employ quality wood in all your rackings. In this article, we will show a modest wine cellar featuring high-reveal racks and standard 750 compartments — one we built together with our partners at Coastal Custom Wine Cellars.

These residential wooden wine racks were installed against the wall. You have the option to request free-standing wooden wine racks, though.

500-Bottle Residential Wood Wine Rack in San Diego

Residential wooden wine racks can be made from Mahogany, Oak, Alderwood, Redwood, Pine, Walnut, and other selected hardwood varieties. We’re always thorough with the wood we use because not all hardwoods have the right quality and condition to withstand the humid and cool climate inside a cellar. If the wood is not in its best shape/quality, it could warp or promote the growth of molds.

Residential wooden wine racks can also accommodate custom wine labels. But for this collection, we opted to place tags directly on the bottles.

The design and color of wooden wine racks are important because they give so much character to a wine cellar, especially since they are the most conspicuous. For this wine cellar, we chose a cream-colored wood species to brighten the room a little. There were no windows in or near the cellar, so getting light-hued racks was a great choice.

Ductless Cooling System Designed Specifically for Wine Cellars

Legitimate wine cellars are cool and climate-controlled. Apart from installing a vapor barrier, installing the right wine cooling system is also crucial. Specifically,  it is important to get a wine cooling unit with excellent temperature and humidity monitoring and quality that could last a lifetime since it will have to run 24/7, 365 days a year. To help preserve this owner’s wine taste and aroma, we decided to bring in the WhisperKOOL Platinum Split wine cooling unit, a ductless split system that’s great for homes that don’t have much ceiling space.

This is the WhisperKOOL wine cellar cooling unit which we attached through this home’s wooden wine racking.

Ductless split systems are often built within rustic wooden wine racks since they are installed through the wall. Some owners opt to hide the evaporator behind wooden grilles, but this owner just installed it as is. If you look through the photos, it would seem that the unit is large and space-consuming, but in reality, it doesn’t really take away the attention from the rest of the wine cellar.

Clean, Well-Engineered Wine Cellar Glass Door

Since the theme of this wine cellar is natural-minimalist, we also used a simple wine cellar door made of glass and wood. Wine cellar doors are not your typical doors. They have to be outdoor-grade, weather-resistant, thick, and well-engineered to withstand warping and mold.

At Custom Wine Cellars San Diego,  we only use premium-quality hardwood for all our doors. The glass panels we use are at least ½-thick and always tempered. To seal and secure the edges of glass panels,  we use either U-channels, rubber gaskets, stainless-steel frames, or wood, in this case.

While other glass-wood door combinations are added with iron detailing, we chose to keep this one simple. However, should you want to add more style to your wine cellar doors like what they used in this basement wine cellar, we can easily do so since we also customize our doors.
